Educated as a classical musician (cello), Handke founded the Hanover-based prog rock Band "Deadlock" in the 1970s, among others, with Matthias Jabs (later Scorpions) and Hannes Folberth and Hannes Arkona (both later Eloy). His instruments: vocals, flute, guitar, bass, saxophone, cello, blues harp. Deadlock was terminated in 1978 when Jürgen Handke moved to England to study linguistics.
